Using Adobe Photoshop to read .IV files

Alternate approach - use ImageView, which is supplied with all OI systems, to open the IV file and output one of the formats that PhotoShop can open directly.

three steps to open the IV file directly in Adobe Photoshop
  1. Click on 'File' menu and select option 'Open As...'. A browsing window will show up.
  2. At lower left corner of the window there is an entry for 'Open File as Format Type' the default value for the type is 'Photoshop 3.0 (*.PSD)'. Change the type to 'Raw (*.RAW).
Select the directory where the files are located and select the file to be opened.
  3. Another window will come up that will allow you to enter the RAW image parameters :
    a. Enter image Dimensions (Width and Height in pixels).
    b. Leave channels as default (Count = 1, Depth = 8).
    c. Enter image header as 12 bytes.
If you do not know the image size, then leave Width & Height blank and enter the header as 12 bytes and then press 'Guess' a few times until Adobe Photoshop selects the right image size for you.

After pressing 'OK' the image should appear on the screen.

Changing the image look up table (Color Table):

Vdaq uses a few special look up tables to show images:
  1. SAT.LUT is used by the calibration procedures to show color reference images.
  2. RESERV16.LUT is used to show the online analysis results (screenX.iv).
  3. GRAY.LUT for any other gray level image.
After loading an IV image to Adobe Photoshop, we can change the look up table by doing :
  1. Select the 'Mode' menu option for 'Indexed Color'.
  2. Select the 'Mode' menu option for 'Color Table...'. A window will come up that usually allow you to change each pixel color. Press 'Load...', another window will come up that will allow you to select a look up table, select one of the following tables :
  • SatLut.ACT : for color reference images.
  • Reserv16.ACT : for screenX.iv images.
  • After pressing 'OK' the image will be displayed using the new look up table.
